The mining town of Cripple Creek is one hour from Colorado Springs. There are spectacular views of the Mountain Ranges.
The Pikes Peak area is an enchanting place, that lets you appreciate the art of relaxation at a highly refined level. It is a destination that captures the spirit of why most people travel – they to want experience the history of the past, see wondrous beauty, eat great food in interesting locales, meet new people from different walks of life, and have authentic and memorable adventures. You get a little bit of everything here. The Pikes Peak area is a truly exquisite destination for even the most demanding of travelers. The stunning surroundings provide a potent reminder of why Colorado can be a diverse and visually enticing place.
A bed and breakfast inn, with its bright, airy furnishings, roaring fireplaces, satisfying food and tranquil surroundings provides the perfect sanctuary to rejuvenate and recharge one’s batteries. The real strength of a bed and breakfast getaway is the compassionate attitudes of the innkeepers. They simply want to do everything they can to help their guests to feel better. They create relaxing rooms for rest and reading, they help guests indulge in rejuvenating spa treatments, they show them where to take nature walks, they introduce them to new people, and prepare delicious cuisine. The emphasis for an innkeeper is on exuding a positive attitude: this aids in reducing stress so the entire lifestyle of a guest is shifted.
Colorado Springs is a destination that is fun, entertaining and educational. When we spend time surrounded by nature that is powerful and awe-inspiring, we can feel rejuvenated. Seeing our smallness in relation to the monolithic Pikes Peak helps us feel renewed. When life pulls the rug out from under us, spending time in nature can help bring clarity and strength to move forward.
Sallie Clark, Innkeeper/Owner of Holden House 1902 Bed & Breakfast Inn in Colorado Springs, CO told me, “One of our guests, who stayed with us for many years, at one point was going to have serious surgery and we thought she might not live,” she continued, “The guest came to the inn to look at it one more time. The surgery was successful and she came back many times thereafter. Obviously we were doing something right. She had spent her honeymoon here during the Christmas season.”
As we discover, the enormous power of nature can influence the mind and body in striking ways. Immersing ourselves in nature is not only a practical self-help tool, but also is a way of exploring the inner self. Cancer sufferers, diabetics, heart disease sufferers have visited the Pikes Peak area to find comfort and healing. Individuals with financial problems, marital challenges, low self-esteem, career transitional difficulties, identity concerns, and loss of loved-ones also come to find strength and simplicity.
After all, mountains with all their scenery, scents and sounds convey messages in the most fundamental language a person can experience. Commiserating with nature can help us recall joyful events from our past or childhood. These memories are the natural expression of our intuition, subconscious mind, and deepest truth.
Sallie Clark, Innkeeper of the Holden House says, “Sometimes, moms need to get a break from their husband and children. We have ladies who just need to get away from their stressful lives to enjoy some pampering. They like to relax, sit and read, take a bubble bath, and get an in-room massage, and just decompress. They are used to taking care of every body else. They enjoy having someone take care of them for a change.”
Taking a journey is a way for people to reconnect to their heart. In times of contemplation, they can travel inward and discover their inner sanctuary and their heart’s true message. Visiting a B & B is a great way to feel inwardly refreshed.
Some innkeepers are so sensitive and caring they are able to provide a setting for people to unburden themselves. Not only are these innkeepers empathetic, they hire staff who love to talk to people, and who have the sensitivity to engage people. Innkeepers understand how to reach a level of communication, which makes their lodgers feel comfortable. Without hovering or being intrusive, innkeepers possess the uncanny art of knowing how to ask open-ended questions. Someone with incredible grief can be transformed in a matter of days, in the right B & B atmosphere.
Visiting a mountain getaway is a way to use nature as a tool for recovery and connection. It is a subtle, yet powerful technique that can help you deal with the painful struggles and difficulties of life. You will learn to look at problems through a different set of lenses – and might discover more happiness and satisfaction in the process. In addition, spending time in breathtaking surroundings with friends or companions creates wonderful synergistic effects.
Sallie Clark shares, “A woman, a paraplegic, comes regularly with her friend. We are one of the few B & B’s in the area who can accommodate people with disabilities. The friends just enjoy reading and sitting on the porch. They spend time sharing stories and renewing their friendship. They appreciate that we deliver breakfast to them without extra charge.”
Many female business travelers like staying in bed and breakfast inns. They prefer it to staying in a big hotel. They feel safe walking around the neighborhood by themselves. They gravitate towards B & B’s because of the homey touches, rugs, antiques and fabrics. Sallie Clark hosts many businesswomen at her inn. “They feel it is a safe atmosphere and they feel more comfortable,” remarks Sallie. “We are off the beaten path, and our guests are not worried about their own safety. They sit and have a glass of wine in the living room and are comfortable without worrying about unwanted intrusions.”
All vacations come to an end. We have to leave nature’s beauty, but the renewal we gain becomes invaluable. When our next crisis arises, we will be prepared to face it with strength and clarity.
